CHAD VALYEAR

Disciple of Jesus Christ | Musician | Author | Speaker | Recovery Advocate | Outreach Worker |

Chad Valyear, the lead singer of the Toronto-based rock band VALYEAR, is a disciple of Jesus Christ and a passionate advocate for recovery, faith, and giving back to others.

As the front man of VALYEAR, Chad combines his love of music with a much larger purpose. The band has worldwide digital distribution through Earache Records Digital Distribution, allowing their music and message to reach audiences far beyond their home community.

But Chad's story extends far beyond the stage.

A man in recovery from addiction, Chad openly shares his lived experience in the hope of helping others find a way out of addiction and into a life of recovery, purpose, and faith. He currently works at a Youth Hub in Port Hope, Ontario, where he continues to invest in and support young people and his community.

Chad is also involved with WORD IN THE STREETS, an outreach street ministry dedicated to meeting people where they are and bringing hope, compassion, and faith directly into the community. Through live speaking events and his social media platform, STRAIGHT UP!, Chad speaks openly and honestly about his experiences with addiction, recovery, faith, and the realities of rebuilding a life.

His outreach extends into detox centers, treatment centers, and correctional facilities, where he shares his story with people who may be struggling with many of the same battles he has faced. His approach is straightforward: no judgment, no pretending, and no sugar-coating the realities of addiction. Instead, Chad uses his own lived experience to demonstrate that another life is possible.

In addition to his work in music and outreach, Chad has expanded his message into film and literature. In 2024, he released the short film Chad Valyear – Up From The Dark, directed by Steve Sugarman, which received 26 Laurel recognitions and was seen in theaters and all over the world. In 2025, he continued sharing his story with the release of his novel, also titled Chad Valyear – Up From The Dark also co-written with Steve Sugarman. (Available here https://a.co/d/9pqIVED )

Both projects reflect his desire to share his journey and reach people who may be facing their own struggles with addiction, adversity, and the search for hope.

At the center of everything Chad does is his faith in Jesus Christ.

Chad is deeply passionate about serving others and believes that his experiences, including the darkest chapters of his life, can be used for a greater purpose. He has made a personal commitment to give back to the world as much as he believes he took from it during his years of active addiction.

He knows that may be an impossible debt to repay.

He refuses to stop trying.
